Dr Warren Parker was the Chief Executive Officer of Scion, the former Forest Research Institute headquartered in Rotorua, which he has since retired from in 2017. Prior to this he was Chief Executive Officer of fellow Crown Research Institute Landcare Research (Manaaki Whenua), based in Christchurch.
Earlier he spent a year at the Institute of Molecular Biosciences commercialisation unit (IMBcom) at the University of Queensland, Brisbane and five years at AgResearch (including as Chief Operating Officer for all of its science business). He was at Massey University from 1980-1998, including the last six years as Professor and Head of the Department of Agribusiness and Resource Management.
Warren has a MAgrSc (Hons I) in Farm Management and a PhD in Animal Science (Massey); been a director of several technology development firms and industry research organisations; and Grow Rotorua (a CCO for district economic development). He is currently Chair of the New Zealand Conservation Authority (NZCA); Chair of ScienceNZ (which represents the seven Crown Research Institutes), and a member of Griffith Enterprise Strategic Advisory Board (the technology commercialisation unit for Griffith University). He is a member of the NZ Institute of Directors, the NZ Institute of Primary Industry Management and the NZ Society of Animal Production.
Warren was raised on a mixed dairy, sheep and beef cattle bordered by the Waipoua and Mataraua forests in Northland. He now resides on a lifestyle block near Rotorua.
Warren joined the Board of Quayside as an independent director in September 2015.
