A rural lad meets the city – meet Tom

People

Tom joined Quayside in November 2022 as an Investment Intern on completion of his time at University of Waikato, studying a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting and a minor in Agribusiness.  Initially travelling over the Kaimai from the family farm in Matamata each day to Tauranga – Tom, a rural lad – has made the transition into city life gradually over the last six months.

Loving the outdoors life, he is a keen sportsman, dabbling in football, swimming and middle distance running during school years and now living in Mount Maunganui he is enjoying bringing out the surfboard on a regular basis – the beach lifestyle is right up his alley for where he is in his life right now but would like to turn his focus one day back into agribusiness, giving back to the farming community that afforded him an awesome upbringing in the mighty Waikato.

Working with the Quayside Investment team, Tom’s focus has been analysing our non-port portfolio, assisting with due diligence research on potential opportunities and reporting. Tom is now working alongside our Finance team on our climate change reporting legislative requirements.

At only 21 years old, Tom has the world at his feet – he wants to see and experience the world a bit more in time, which in turn will only expand his cooking repertoire which is one of his downtime passions and get involved in marine conservation – as a keen fisherman he acknowledges that it is all of our responsibility to ensure the marine world is treated with care and respect to allow us to play and gather kai from it now and into the future.

For the time being, we are incredibly happy to have this rural lad learning about business and work life amongst the Quayside team. He lets his more rambunctious colleagues do the talking and the grand statements whilst he quietly gets amongst it – nailing the Stuff quiz amongst the Quayside kaimahi to take top of the leader board consistently – slightly annoying for those aforementioned boisterous team members!
