MEDIA RELEASE

Quayside Holdings is pleased to announce the appointment of Henare Walker as Director, to PF Olsen Group Holdings Board of Directors.
An experienced Chartered Accountant, Henare (Ngati Porou, Te Whanāu ā Apanui, Ngāi Tahu) brings regional, cultural, environmental and economic mātauranga (knowledge) to his latest posting.

Henare grew up on the rugged coast of Tairawhiti, before joining the Navy and then returned to study, later completing a double major in accounting and finance at the University of Otago. Henare cut his teeth across multinational investment and accounting firms, Wolters Kluwer, Cullen Investments and Crowe Horwath New Zealand in the early days before moving to Springer Healthcare in finance management roles.

Over the last 10 years, Henare has held notable positions across forestry and iwi organisations, providing a strong footing for this Directorship with PF Olsen Group.

Henare was responsible for managing a local-based subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation, Summit Forests New Zealand’s financial interests and operations, including oversight of the annual harvest from its estate across 50,000ha of forestry. Furthermore, in 2018 he was appointed to join then Forestry Minister Shane Jones’ Ministerial Advisory Group, providing advice about the sector and how the Government and industry can work together.

“The Industry has had a few tough years of late, with weather events and markets presenting many challenges, but the future presents ample opportunity for Forestry to play a key role in helping the country meet emission targets, providing diversification options for landowners, working toward more value-added products and the development of the circular-bioeconomy” Mr Walker said.

As well as working with various multinational boards, Henare held Directorships with Nāti Growth Ltd and other group entities and is now the CEO of Nāti Growth, which is responsible for managing the financial assets of Ngāti Porou iwi, pursuing the delivery of sustainable economic growth for the benefit of Ngāti Porou and the Tairawhiti region, with the belief that Māori governance operates within a broad ecosystem with a focus on ratonga (service) and long-term impact – the understanding that we may not enjoy the shade from a tree that we plant today, but our mokopuna will. It is this strong sense of duty, commercial nous and industry experience that will provide value in his new position.

“The board welcomes Henare as collectively we step into a new era and thanks Brendon Barnes for his knowledge and steadfast commitment to his role throughout his tenure,” says Graeme Milne, Chair, PF Olsen Group Holdings.

Henare’s two-year appointment will commence on 1 September 2023.
Nau mai haere mai and a warm welcome Henare.
