Meet ‘New Sam’ our quiet achiever and new Investment Manager

People

Sam caused a bit of a dilemma for the team when he signed on the dotted line to join Quayside.   We already enjoy the company of the most original team member of Quayside Sam Newbury (a.k.a Old Sam) so we had to get our heads around have two Sams in the house!

Sam (a.k.a New Sam) is a local lad raised in the Bay of Plenty and whilst plenty of international experience in terms of connections through his career, location wise he has not strayed very far from these roots.   A graduate of Commerce from University of Otago he joined the local KPMG office before moving into the Corporate Finance team focusing on mergers and acquisitions, modelling and valuations.

His next move was where the virtual global connections came into play taking up a role with The Rohatyn Group, an international asset manager with a focus on agribusiness, where he spent three years honing his skills and experience.  In 2021 he joined Comvita, an organisation that is synonymous within the Bay of Plenty business circles and close to the heart of Quayside with ex Director of Quayside Brett Hewlett at the Chair of the organisation.    His role was Corporate Finance Manager focusing on long term financial strategic planning, capital structuring and treasury management.   An area of finance and investment that he acknowledges is his “jam”.

Sam is Dad to Eliza who celebrates her second birthday in June, and partner to Megan.   Both keen on the outdoors, they have their eyes on a jaunt to Canada – the dreaded COVID lockdown cancelled trip – for some serious adventure and when Eliza gets a little bit older, to Scandinavia, which is one of those bucket list destinations for them both.

We are stoked to have Sam on board at Quayside, bringing fresh ideas along with his wealth of knowledge and experience.   He is part of a fairly new and dynamic investment team that is led by aforementioned Old Sam, but we know that he will find his own sweet spot within the Quayside team.
