You could say that Rob was the odd one out with younger twin siblings, but he has carved his own path in banking and investment, different from his brother and sister’s chosen careers and we are happy that path has found its way to Quayside.
A Timaru lad, he qualified out of Otago in management and finance after an initial stint in health sciences where he quickly realised that much like Doc Martin, it all made him slightly squeamish! It was here he met his now wife, Jess.
Rob joined the finance industry in turbulent times through the GFC, initially working in finance companies before making the move to banking. He found his feet working at the BNZ, in the institutional banking team, specifically looking after energy and utility customers. It was from there he moved with the bank to the Bay to look after commercial and corporate customers.
Both Rob and Jess, an actuary, are numbers people and pretty good at assessing risks and planning for the future. This led to Rob taking 10 months out of his career to look after young Master Tom when Jess’ maternity leave ended and finish study for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification. A time that Rob cherished to spend with Tom, who is now two years old, and ready to take him to the snow slopes, which is a love of both Rob and Jess – something to look forward to this coming winter.
Rob has joined the Quayside team as an Investment Manager and will bring his strong set of skills and understanding in private equity and direct investment to the team. Rob sees his future as working within an organisation and helping it grow; he thrives on being part of transactions and keen to upskill in corporate governance.
Rob has fitted in nicely to the wider team – he’s got a sense of humour which is a must here at Quayside, sharp on detail, innovative and strategic thinking and able to take a ribbing from his colleagues and fire it right back. Yes, he’ll do just nicely.
