Laid back and driven, Callum is a bit of an oxymoron. With his eyes firmly fixed on his future aspirations, he exudes an unflappable and relaxed vibe in his approach to work and life.
The middle child within a family of boys, Callum grew up in Hamilton, playing plenty of rugby throughout his schooling years, fishing and diving near the family bach in Tāwharanui.
Harking from a business-minded family, it was clear to Callum that if he wanted to one day run his own business, he needed to understand the books. Embarking on a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance and Accounting, followed by a Diploma for Graduates Endorsed in Economics, Callum quickly discovered that accounting was not the field for him. Conversely, the realm of mergers and acquisitions offered the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of business, what keeps the wheels spinning, the buy and sell side of transactions and market perception.
Callum was both a Corporate Finance Intern and Graduate at Deloitte in Hamilton, later moving to the Auckland Corporate Finance team for a further two years where he recently was promoted to Senior Corporate Finance Analyst. It was Quayside’s good fortune to nab this motivated lad as he relocated to the Bay of Plenty with his partner earlier this year.
Callum’s quietly competitive nature is evident in both a working and sporting capacity. His eyes light up when speaking about portfolio management, the drive to beat the market and others.
When speaking about what excited him about joining Quayside, he said that it was a mixture of working for a boutique company with a $3 billion portfolio and a culture where you could bring your whole self to work.
Fitting into the quintessential Mount Maunganui persona with ease, outside of the office, Callum keeps his calendar full with time at the local CrossFit gym, diving and an envious amount of time on the golf course improving his swing – he’s quick to comment that he doesn’t want to become complacent whilst slotting into the Bay lifestyle – a drive that we can appreciate in this young Investment Analyst.
With CFA level 1 already under his belt, he has level 2 in his sights and we’re confident he’ll smash it all the way down the green. Evidence of the ambition that sits behind his cool and calm exterior demeanour.
