Mā mu ka kite a muri, mā muri ka ora a mua!
Those who lead give sight to those who follow, those who follow give life to those who lead.
Quayside has appointed Scott Campbell (Te Arawa, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Pūkenga) as Chair of the Huakiwi Board, reflecting his governance experience, long-standing relationships with iwi, and his ability to work where cultural and commercial outcomes meet.
Huakiwi Developments LP is a joint venture between Quayside and Te Tumu Paeroa, governed by a four-member Board. Under the partnership arrangements, Quayside appoints two directors, with the remaining two appointed by Te Tumu Paeroa. Scott’s appointment follows the planned transition from Lyndon Settle, who has served as Chair on the Huakiwi Board on behalf of Quayside.
Huakiwi is built on long-term partnership and trust. Scott understands that and brings the judgement and experience needed to lead in an environment where cultural and commercial outcomes must sit together. I’m confident the Board and partners are in very capable hands, said Lyndon Settle.
Scott is an experienced executive leader and director, and a Member of the Institute of Directors. He was previously on the Port of Tauranga Board and has held various executive roles where he is responsible for strategy and governance, Māori outcomes, stakeholder relationships, and Board engagement.
He has worked extensively with iwi across Aotearoa on pre- and post-Treaty settlement matters, and is well regarded for his ability to operate in complex governance and stakeholder environments. His background spans public sector leadership, strategic advisory roles, risk and crisis management, and board governance.
Scott holds an Executive MBA with First Class Honours and is currently completing a Doctor of Business Administration focused on decision-making under pressure. He is a graduate of Harvard University’s National Preparedness Leadership Initiative and has previously held a range of governance roles, including trustee and board development appointments.
Huakiwi continues to be managed by an experienced operating team, with orchard and horticultural expertise provided by Southern Cross Horticulture and Seeka. While the original investment thesis and target return have evolved over time, the asset remains well managed and continues to generate a positive forward-looking cashflow yield.
Ongoing engagement with Māori partners and landowners remains a priority for the Board. Maintaining strong relationships is critical to delivering outcomes that respect mana whenua interests and support long-term stewardship of the asset.
Quayside expects Scott’s appointment to further strengthen the Huakiwi Board and support clear, considered governance and long-term value creation.
